Try running a program that turns the audio filter on and off.  If that doesn't work, I would assume that the LED burned out or the connection is loose.  As I recall, the LED is tied to the filter.  I'd also play back a sample with the filter on and off to see if it sounded different.  Something may have happened to the filter.
