- As opposed to just starting to do funny things, or silently corrupt
- your data and harddisk. Oh? that bit that just flipped state turned a
- read into a write. Oh well.
-
- I'd would much rather be told that I had a memory failure as soon as
- I accessed that piece of memory than to find out a little later
- that something went wrong and maybe blame it on buggy software.
-
- A parity error will help find faulty/flaky memory instead of
- just having to guess whether the failure to boot is due to an unseated
- agnus chip, power glitches from your washing machine on the same outlet,
- or a zap from having just touched the front of your TV screen.
-
- Parity memory is a necessity in any environment where security of
- data is needed. Todays DRAMs are still succeptible to the occasional
- alpha particle hit to knock those electrons around, especially in
- the high density drams that do not have that much charge in those wells
- to maintain the state of a memory cell.
-
- EDC would be even better however the cost can be prohibitive.
