- The X10 system uses the house wiring to transmit codes to various remote
- controllers. These remote controllers can turn on appliances or lights. The
- remote light controllers can dim them to any level. Each remote has a code set
- in a pair of switches.
-
- There are a number of controllers for these remotes that can be used. The
- simplest just have push buttons for specific remotes. There is a more
- sophisticated unit called the Power House Controller that has the switches,
- but also has an internal CPU with ram that can be programmed via an rs232
- cable and some software. This is the unit being referred to in these posts.
- It became very popular about 6 years ago when DAK was selling them very
- cheaply. There are also other controllers that can connect to the phone so you
- can call the house and controll lights and appliances, or listen to what is
- happening at home.
-
- The controllers and remotes are sold at lots of electronics stores. Radio
- Shack has their own version of the system that is compatible with the normal
- units.
