- There are two fixes to the problem I was having with the Supra
- 2400zi internal modem card on the A4000. The problem was that
- any term program I tried locked up after a random amount of time
- when used with the modem0.device 1.3 on the A4000.
-
- The bad fix:
-
- Run the setpatch from OS 2.04 disks. This setpatch contains a
- patch of Forbid() to allows old modem0.device's to work under
- 2.04 [& 3.0] (as near as I can tell from the short discription
- of the patch that is printed when this setpatch is run). For
- some reason, this patch code was taken out of the OS 3.0
- setpatch command (I think I know why - read on). IMHO, this fix
- should only be used long enough to perform the 'good fix'.
-
- The good fix:
-
- Obtain modem0.device 2.5 from Supra and/or their BBS and/or
- local dealer. A kind fellow email'd the thing to me (it was on
- Supra's open BBS, so it should be fairly legal...). I am most
- grateful.
-
- It is clear that this problem had absolutely nothing to do with
- hardware problems. With this fix (new driver), all my Zorro II
- devices appear to work fine on my A4000. I'm sorry if I ever
- implied that the A4000 had any sort of problems with Zorro II
- devices. I believe that I was quite clear that I was only
- relaying what I heard from a GVP tech support guy I spoke with
- on the phone. I clearly stated at the time of that post that I
- found it very hard to believe... Dave has posted his thought's
- on the matter and other's in the know have made it clear via
- email that there is nothing to worry about. Now that I can
- *see* all my Zorro II devices work, I *believe* them. I guess
- that makes me a *scientist* (inside joke :-).
