- I agree... My solution: I designed some *nice* icons for text files, etc.
- which aren't square blocks - they have gaps and spaces around them which
- reduce the 'obscuring' problem a lot, and also make the drop-shadows look
- a heck of a lot better...

- to do their frontends and icons, rather than their (very able but less
