- We have a rather large network supporting a wide range of lan
- cards, protocols and operating systems. One of the common
- configurations used is that of an FTP spec. packet driver
- used in conjunction with BYU's ipx. This allows us to
- communicate IP to our UNIX boxes and IPX to our NOVELL servers.
-
- We would like to enable all users of the network to be able
- to configure their machine in this way. That is, we would
- like to move away from IP encapsulation in IPX wherever
- possible.
-
- PROBLEM: We have, amongst many others, a number of GATEWAY's
- G/Ethernet NICs. These NICs, as far as we can find out,
- do not have an FTP spec. packet driver. However, their
- IPX.COM is supposed to contain a packet driver interface.
- This interface seems to work fine when using software like
- CUTE or TRUMPET but all falls over when trying to use
- PATHWAY's telnet in conjunction with PATHWAY's interface
- to the packet driver, pktdrv.exe.
-
- Our next step was to use the ODI stack setup. Now in this instance
- we manage to get PATHWAY working fine but the ODIPKT.COM interface
- needed to run software like CUTE or TRUMPET does not communicate with
- the ODI driver.
-
- SUMMARY: We would like to throw out IP and IPX packets without having
- to change our configuration each time. We would like to do
- this using GATEWAY's G/Ethernet NICs. We also need to run
- PATHWAY's telnet, CUTE and TRUMPET also without having to
- change the configuration each time.
-
- HELP: Can anyone offer a solution to our dilemma? We would be very
- grateful if you could mail myself or post to this group any
- suggestions.
-
- Ta,
- Craig.
