- The Background:
- As a software-challenged hardware engineer, I should probably not even be
- attempting KIP and CAP, but judgement was never one of my strong points ;-)
-
- I am attempting to get CAP running on my sysVr4 (486/50) workstation,
- to reach my IIci and LW+ through a Kinetics Fastpath II. I have gotten
- everything more or less compiled. I have got a lot of little helpful bits
- for the Mac end from helpful souls on the internet. I haven't got it
- working yet (of course).
-
- The network I am a part of - rainnet - is a class B network with 5 bit
- subnetting. The ethernet is 147.28.18.64 to 95, (with broadcast address
- 147.28.18.95) and the appletalk can have IP addresses 147.28.18.96 to 127.
- I have been calling my subnets klicether (18.64) and klicapple (18.96).
-
- The Question:
-
- What do I need to tweak to convince all the various bits of KIP and CAP that
- 5 bit subnetting is OK? There is a flag in atalkatab for 0,1,2, or 3 byte
- broadcasts but no finer granularity, apparently.
-
- Any code mods needed? In which modules? Is there any better documentation
- on using KIP and CAP in small environments? Is anyone else crazy enough to
- try this with sysVr4? Would you sell your expertise cheaply? Am I ready
- for the rubber room yet?
