- An intensive introductory workshop on Supercomputing will be conducted over
- two days at the conclusion of the Fifth Australian Supercompuling Conference.
- The course will cover the architectures of various Supercomputers to which
- Australians have easy access. The course will focus on gaining the maximum
- performance these devices are capable of delivering. All examples will be
- presented in the FORTRAN programming language.
- The course will concentrate on vector technology; however, a section on the use
- of parallel shared memory computers will be included on the second day. The
- workshop will give students the opportunity to use several supercomputers. The
- following computers will be available for the workshop:
- Convex, courtesy of Queensland Supercomputing Laboratory
- Cray Y-MP/4E, courtesy of CSIRO

-
- To enable those attending the workshop to gain the maximum advantage from the
- machine resources being contributed, attendance is limited to fifteen. Students
- wil1 find it an advantage in the practical work if they have previously used
- Unix systems; however, rudiments of the editor and job submission will be
