  12. First, a very hearty thank you to the more than a dozen who answered my 
  13. query about running Oracle 6.0.27 on VMS 5.5.  A friend who does subscribe 
  14. to this list told me that there were some complaints about my asking for 
  15. help and not subscribing to the list.  Allow me to briefly explain.

  17. I'm blind and use a Dectalk talking terminal to do my work.  This list has 
  18. subh volume that, if I were to listen to every message that came over 
  19. looking for the ones which answered my questions, I'd not get much work 
  20. done.  Listening is far slower than reading visually.  Also, there are so 
  21. many header lines and signature lines and lines of dashes and equals signs, 
  22. etc. that take a long time to listen to, that I'd never get to the meat of
  23. a message before I got disgusted and quit.  I can filter out a lot, but the 
  24. sheer volume would be daunting.

  26. I'll try to keep my queries to an absolute minimum, and apologize to any 
  27. who are offended by my not subscribing.  When I used to be able to see, I 
  28. did subscribe, and enjoyed it tremendously, but now that I'm blind, well, I 
  29. have to do it this way.
