  25. Yes, I have had a disk in a volume set go bad, and yes, it's a bummer.  So
  26. what's your point?  If I need six gigabytes of data on one logical disk
  27. and one of the disks which make up that logical disk crashes, I've got to
  28. restore six gigabytes of data whether it's made up of one disk or a dozen.
  29. I guess I'd rather have a single spindle, but DEC hasn't released the RA99
  30. yet (and never will, of course).  On the other hand, once I've converted
  31. the volume set to a stripe set maybe it'll be a little faster than that
  32. mythical single-spindle RA99.

  34. How many tapes?  Well, as I said earlier, right now it takes one DAT tape
  35. with the volume set 85 percent full; if I put much more data on it, it
  36. may take two.  I don't know exactly how much time it'll take to restore
  37. it -- I'll find that out when I go to striping this weekend.  But last
  38. night it took 3 hours and 50 minutes to back it up (unattended).  It'll
  39. probably take a little longer to restore.
