- Yes, I have had a disk in a volume set go bad, and yes, it's a bummer. So
- what's your point? If I need six gigabytes of data on one logical disk
- and one of the disks which make up that logical disk crashes, I've got to
- restore six gigabytes of data whether it's made up of one disk or a dozen.
- I guess I'd rather have a single spindle, but DEC hasn't released the RA99
- yet (and never will, of course). On the other hand, once I've converted
- the volume set to a stripe set maybe it'll be a little faster than that
- mythical single-spindle RA99.
-
- How many tapes? Well, as I said earlier, right now it takes one DAT tape
- with the volume set 85 percent full; if I put much more data on it, it
- may take two. I don't know exactly how much time it'll take to restore
- it -- I'll find that out when I go to striping this weekend. But last
- night it took 3 hours and 50 minutes to back it up (unattended). It'll
- probably take a little longer to restore.
