  13. According to IBM, the Service Pack is not guaranteed to work on a
  14. system with the "beta" patches installed.  This came out after a
  15. marathon consulting session over an error syndrome almost identical
  16. to what you have specified (Update dies on disk 12).  The only solution
  17. IBM had was to reinstall the GA then apply the service pack to that.

  19. Personally, I found this infuriating - not that the SP was not guaranteed
  20. to work on a(n) (IBM-)patched system, but that this is not documented
  21. *anywhere*.
