  12. Well, I went home, fiddled some more, & solved my problem.

  14. To install the cd-rom, one must not only choose cd-rom support from the
  15. selective install panel, but must also go in and choose IBM cd-rom
  16. drivers WITHIN the cd-rom support item.  Then reboot & it all sorts
  17. out.

  19. The results of the above procedure was an additional "IFS" statement in
  20. my config.sys that gave me access to the drive.
  21.  
  22. It IS NOT necessary to do a full reinstall of the OS as CD Technology
  23. tech. support claimed.  It MAY be necessary to have the drive
  24. physically installed and powered on before this works.  I haven't gone
  25. back & tried again without it.
