- Hi all,
-
- I have installed the new SP more than a week ago, and have had
- troubles since then.
- My system (386DX40, ET4000, etc) has crashed numerous times
- without a warning (actually it crashes at least once a day
- now), and I am getting REALLY annoyed with this.
- I have just read a few messages which assured me that
- I am not the only one with those sort of problems (such
- as swap file grows and grows until it has no more space and
- then just freezes the system up, etc). but anyway....
-
- I have called IBM and explained my problmes. The guy on the
- other side seemed to understand my problem, as it
- appears that the same thing happened to him the day before.
- His recommendations are for me to backup everything I have,
- re-install DOS, and install OS/2 on top as a dual boot machine.
- I am currently running full HPFS (hence, no dual-boot).
- He seems to think that the SP still has a few bugs in it, in
- the sense that it doesn't completely get rid of problems which
- pre-existed the installation. Also, my interpretation of his words
- is that HPFS is giving the SP a few problems, and thereofre I should
- go back to FAT.
-
- Now, I am a little reluctant to do so, as I kinda like
- my 256 character file names, as well as the apparent
- speed increase. However, I will be glad if I could use my
- computer to play all those nifty games that cannot run under OS/2.
-
- My only worry is that FAT would be much slower the HPFS. So,
- can anyone advise me whether the difference is that big.
- I would especially appreciate figures concerning load
- time of the system (from the moment you turn the computer
- on till when you can start working with the WPS), as well
- as starting applications, etc.
-
- I think that's about it.
-
- Oh, BTW, does anybody know the contact number for
- DeScribe in Australia?? It was quite fascinating calling
- software shops which have never heard of that word-processor
- before....
-
- Appreciated. Mail or post. Assi.
