  11. Until last week, I was running Procomm's vt100 emulation under MSDOS
  12. across a 2400 baud modem. This week it's TE/2's vt100 emulation under
  13. OS/2 across a v.32bis modem. Everything works as advertised, except for
  14. a serious problem with screen redraws in vi. Can anyone help?

  16. The specifics are that parts of the screen are often (but not always)
  17. blacked out as I move across them (either with cursor movement or when
  18. entering text). The area affected seems to be from the left margin to a
  19. bit more than halfway across the screen. Sometimes when I enter text,
  20. each character is displayed briefly and then blacked out; other times
  21. several characters linger briefly and are then all blacked out at once.
  22. This doesn't happen every time I use vi, but it's very frequent. It
  23. usually occurs when I am editing text; if I am appending new text at
  24. the end of a document, everything works smoothly.

  26. In all cases, the characters are being transmitted properly; if I escape
  27. into control mode and repaint the screen explicitly with control-L, they
  28. all reappear where they belong. Needless to say, escaping into control
  29. mode and repainting the screen using control-L is not the way vi is
  30. supposed to work.

  32. I have "redraw" set in vi and I can't find any other settings to
  33. twiddle. The mainframe I'm talking to is running Ultrix 4.2. I'm using
  34. the vt100-nam termcap setting. I can't prove that the problem is with
  35. vi, rather than with the termcap settings in general.

  37. I like TE/2 in general, but I use vi constantly and the problem is so
  38. frequent as to be a serious impediment to getting my work done. Any
  39. suggestions?
