  16. I read in some IBM document that if you weren't experiencing the problems
  17. that the service pak fixed, then you shouldn't install it.  I wasn't, but
  18. I ignored what was probably excellent advice and installed it anyway.  I
  19. crashed seven or eight times the same day I installed it.  Thinking I had
  20. done something wrong, I began trying some of the things being suggested in
  21. this forum.  Still no luck.

  23. I finally fixed things by reinstalling my out-of-the-box os/2, the kernal
  24. fix that eliminates the swapper.dat problem, and trident's 800x600x16
  25. seamless drivers.  My system is fine, now.

  27. It does *appear* to be a little less *snappy* than (whisper on ..win3.1),
  28. but I have done no tweaking of the config.sys parameters, no notebook
  29. settings or anything else to make it faster.  And that's ok.  I can (and
  30. did) download a 400k file in the background while printing a forty page
  31. document while working on my budget while playing solitaire while . . .

  33. On the whole I'm satisfied.  If IBM does no better than this, I'm still
  34. better off than I was under you-know-what.  |^>
