- Please Help!
-
- I tried to install the OS/2 2.X beta from CD-ROM last night, with no luck.
-
- On the second disk, "Disk One", after a lengthy wait looking at the
- "Loading, Please Wait" message, the system got stuck in what seemed to be a
- loop: The Diskette would be accessed, the CD activity light would blink
- for a second or two, the message "CD-ROM not found, installation aborted"
- would flash on my screen, and the process would repeat. I let this
- continue for 20 or 30 cycles before resetting the system.
-
- I have a Gateway 386/25, Micronics, Phoenix BIOS, IDE drives, 8 Mb RAM on
- motherboard... a plain vanilla system with no wierd adapters or features.
- The CD-ROM is the IBM discount package from CD Technology, which is a
- Toshiba drive and a FD-850-MEX SCSI adapter. CD access works perfectly
- under the GA OS, which is presently installed.
-
- I used the installation program to set up the CONFIG.SYS in the boot
- diskette with FD8XX.ADD, and tried both the CDROM.SYS driver and the
- CDROM_G.SYS driver, with the same results. I tried using SCSI address 0
- and 2 with each combination of drivers.
-
- If anyone has installed the beta from CD-ROM, particularly using equipment
- similar to mine, I'd appreciate a note describing how you did it. Thanks
- in advance.
