-
- Well, the simple fact of the matter is that she was able to get a
- cheaper computer that didn't come with Windoze. Although she had to go
- to a second vendor. Bundling is a myth! MS is not giving away Windoze,
- they're selling it. All that bundling means is that you're paying for
- the copy of Windoze whether you want it or not. In fact, if it were me,
- and some company offered to throw in Windoze with my computer, I would
- demand that they not give me the software, and that they discount my
- computer by the cost of that software. If they didn't, I'd probably
- take my business elsewhere. Which is exactly what my mother did--she
- may not understand computers, but she's still no fool.

-
- I didn't say anything about crashing. My mother types over 150 wpm.
- Windoze cannot keep up with her typing. She also doesn't like rodents.
- Especially when you have to use them in a word-processing program.
- She upgraded from a dedicated word-processing machine. Coming from an
- environment like that, Windoze looks like a *total* dog.
-
- Actually, I've never had Windoze crash on me, either, but I haven't used
- it very much. I guess I can agree that it doesn't crash in 10 minutes
- of use. :-) I haven't seen any Windoze software yet that I'm
- interested in. There's far more DOS software out there, and most of it
- works better than the Windoze equivalents IMO.
-
- ObAdvocacy: of course, this is why I like OS/2. I get to use the truly
- gigantic base of software available for DOS, *and* I get real
- multitasking, 32-bit apps if I want, and I could even run a Windoze
- program if the urge ever struck me. Though I can't really imagine this
- latter circumstance. :-)
-
- > You mother ought to recommend to her boss that they hire better

-
- Which boss? She's freelance, and she's used Windoze at a bunch of
- different places. T'ain't the installation, it's the "operating
- environment" that she dislikes.
-
- Actually, it seems that Windoze is far more popular with bosses than it
- is with the hordes of secretaries and such. I can't count the number of
- office workers I've talked to who complain about Windoze, but have to
- use it because it's mandated in the office. Certainly far more than the
- number of office workers I've talked to who actually *like* Windoze.
- I'd be interested in seeing a poll of the reactions of people who find
- themselves using Windoze in the workplace, will 'e or nill 'e. It might
- surprise a lot of people.

-
- Now this part I agree with. :-)
