  12. Hi,
  13.   I suppose my problems are not new in this group, but I have over 800 unread
  14. articles and simply cannot search in all of them for a solution.
  15. I have installed linux using the version on forwiss passau with good success,
  16. i.e. there were no error messages. Problem is, how to get X11 started. My
  17. VGA-adapter is Diamond Speedstar 24, that means Tseng ET-4000 chipset with
  18. true-color DAC. After several tries i got a useable image on my screen (no
  19. good quality, because old and no docs for the monitor). But now startx ends
  20. upon an error message: "Fatal error: Couldn`t open default font `fixed`, 
  21. giving up." and several error messages by the xinit process (I suppose those
  22. are caused by the missing font). I tried to copy an other font to the name
  23. of `fixed`, but this did not change anything.
  24. Question: What file is accessed by fixed, must I change the path for the
  25.   fonts? Has anyone had the same problems? Are they caused by the hardware
  26.   (well, I suppose not...)?
