- I have several questions regarding X and video boards. I am thinking
- of buying a computer that comes packaged with a paradise windows accl.
- SVGA video card based on the WD9031. My questions are the following:
-
- 1) Does X under linux currently support this chip?
-
- 2) If not, what is involved in writting a driver for a particular
- card?
-
- 3) I believe that this is a propreitary card. Does this mean that it
- will be impossible to write a driver for the card or that in all
- liklihood a driver will never be written?
-
- 4) How will the card perform without a driver, (it dose support
- the VESA bios extensions) does this mean that I will be able to run X
- in 1024x728 resolution but I will not be able to take advantage of the
- chips acceleration functions, or will I be restricted to lower resolutions?
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Scott
