- Hello all
- I, and I presume others, are rather confused by the
- multitude of pc parts and how well each works with Linux. Soo....
- I would like to compile a list of each of the following: vga cards,
- scsi and other hard disk adapters, ethernet cards, and mice(and whatever
- else anybody might deem appropriate). This list will evaluate each item
- according the following criteria:
-
- Is it supported under linux? are there plans and/or development?
-
- Is the support alpha, beta, or better. (perhaps a stabability index could
- be created??)
-
- Who should I contact for further information? (if it is being developed)
-
- For vga cards, at what resolutions does it work? and what are the values
- for the Xconfig file. Is it fast? What amount of ram is required for
- each resolution available. Might be good to start a list of S3 cards
- as the S3 support is being developed.
-
- For scsi cards, What cards are supported? Is it necessary to get an
- adaptec 1542 for decent speed? (IE. a non-busmastering card). Perhaps
- an index relative to some standard card like the 1542 could be created?
- (DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THE ALWAYS IN2000 IS SUPPORTED?) I can buy this
- from a friend, but i havent been able to ascertain 100% whether or not
- it is supported...
-
- BTW: dont forget ESDI. I am using an ESDI drive and have not had *any*
- problems at all! Its fast, reliable and besides, everybody is dumping
- them for SCSI's! so their cheap! :)
-
- Over all index as to functionality and performance under linux. IE.
- If I was buying something, should I get this or should I pop for the
- better one?
-
-
- And any other information you would like to offer.
-
-
- I do realize that this information I am asking for is already available!
- But it is scattered all over creation and it seems like its all either
- obsolete or conficting. SOOO!!! If anybody has a cool setup they
- are really proud of, please let me know! I will hopefully compile
- a list and put it up for ftp when it seems like it has some useful
- information.
