  10. I have been experiencing some severe slow downs on my system lately that
  11. I believe are related to some sort of problem with sendmail.  I have
  12. not got a complete handle on the problems yet but I do have a question.
  13. It seems that whenever the system gets constipated I see error messages
  14. on my syslog indicating receipt of a "421" command by my sendmail.  The
  15. line actually looks like this:

  17. Nov 10 01:02:29 sysnam sendmail[13168]: "421" command unrecognized
  18.  
  19. I know that 421 is a valid response within SMTP but I cannot find any
  20. indication of it being a command.

  22. Any thoughts?
