- This seems very restrictive. It seems that there are (at least) three classes
- of people who want to get software from "the Internet".
-
- 1) people with direct Internet access. They don't need these directions, since
- they would follow the FTP directions listed previously.
-
- 2) people who have Domain addresses thru MX records. This could well be the
- situation for Mr. Flintstone above.
-
- 3) people who must use uucp. For example
-
- bedrock!barney_rubble@stone.age.edu
-
- Poor Mr. Rubble. He's not directly on the Internet. He hasn't been able to
- persuade a forwarder to register an MX record for him. Fortunately, a site
- that IS on the Internet will accept mail for him. And yet, you don't want to
- send him a response. Why do you disenfranchise Mr. Rubble this way?
-
- I don't think it's better if Mr. Rubble supplies an address of the form
-
- barney_rubble@bedrock.uucp
-
- because he is better off explicitly specifying a known good path than having
- the software attempt to auto-route to him.
