- It'd be nice to know what system you're seeing this on. We can
- reproduce this problem here on our AIX (3.2) systems when a user edits
- his/her mailbox. At least vi and emacs indicate they have problems
- restoring permissions to the mailbox when rewriting it and the result
- is that the group ownership of the file reverts to the user's group
- instead of mail. This occurs even though the setgid flag is set on the
- mail spool directory! Just editing the mailbox works fine, but editing
- it from elm fails to restore the group ownership. Go figure! I knew
- AIX was totally broken but this is ridicules. Our work-around is to
- disable mailbox editing during configuration.
-
- Instead of all the AIX gurus out there flaming me, how about trying to
- convert me by answering the following: what should the permissions be
- for /usr/spool/mail? "drwxrwsr-x bin mail" or something else? Or,
- Oracle forbid, does ACEs enter into the fray?
