  12.     I'm working at home, using a mac to connect to my sun at work
  13. and run emacs. Problem is, I have the small mac keyboard with the
  14. irritating lack of ctl and esc keys. Now my comm software maps the
  15. tilde to the esc key (I still don't know how to get a tilde, but I can
  16. live with that) and the little clover key is acting as CTRL which is
  17. fine, but is there any way I can get this option key to function as a
  18. meta key?

  20. Also, I was trying to remap the backspace key to backward-delete-char
  21. with the global-set-key command, but when I try it, I get some weird
  22. behavior. If I do M-x global-set-key it asks for a key. If I hit C-q
  23. (for example) it then asks me for a function to map to that, and I
  24. enter backward-delete-char and now C-q is my delete key. But when I
  25. tried that same thing with C-h it wouldn't accept C-h by itself, it
  26. wanted some other key to be pressed afterwards. When I hit C-h emacs
  27. showed that as C-h-  and waited for another key. It's hard to explain,
  28. but try it and see. Can anyone explain this strange behavior to me?

  30. Also, is there anything else in emacs (any special features) that will
  31. help me with my dialin work? Any advice would be helpful from those
  32. who use emacs over a modem line (I'm at 2400 BTW).

  34. Finally, (and I realize this may not be an emacs message) is there a
  35. way to not get incomming mail messages plastered all over my screen?
  36. And is there a way for emacs to let me know on the status line when
  37. new mail has come in?

  39. If it makes any difference I'm running GNU emacs 18.57 on a Sun.
