- Is it to much to ask folk to hold their flames for either email, or even
- better, write them only for their own amusement?
-
- For instance, in this latest missage, we are told that the original poster
- should:
-
- > It's good that people are still writing editors -- heck, I'm doing it
- > myself -- but don't post treatises on editors that you obviously don't
- > know about in order to hype your own.
-
- Yes the poster obviously either didn't understand the original msg or
- was so consumed by the need to flame that he missed the fact that:
-
- a) in certain modes of operations, vi does indeed hold off updates until
- the escape key is pressed
-
- and
-
- b) vi does indeed not EASILY permit "arbitrary blocks of text". For instance,
- there is no single simple _vi_ command to allow one to take text such as:
-
-
- Time Cost Purpose
-
- 4 mins $2.50 Cycles of processing
- 2.5 mins $1.75 Pages of print
-
- and place the Cost column before the Time column. Columns are what most
- people mean when they describe arbitrary blocks of text - not pieces of
- a single line or entire lines.
