- There is an MS-DOS program called Kedit, which has all the features of
- Xedit, plus valuable extensions. It is not public domain, but neither is
- it very expensive. For information, contact the Mansfield Software Group,
- PO Box 532, Storrs CT 06268. Phone: (203)429-8402
-
- Some of the features I really like are column and sentence blocking (with
- cut, copy and move), as well as the Xedit line blocking. Blocking can be
- done by cursor movement and an alt-letter key combination, as well as the
- old-fashioned Xedit prefix area commands (which only work for line
- blocking). I so much prefer the former that I've turned my ====== off for
- good. I believe the latest version (which I don't have) comes bundled
- with an MS-DOS Rexx. My version has a Kedit macro language instead.
-
- Kedit also has a much more rational positioning of the cursor after
- operations than Xedit does. I hate that returning of the cursor to the
- command area after every operation. And finally, Kedit doesn't have that
- stupid nulls on/nulls off problem that Xedit has and in its default mode
- it doesn't make entire lines upper case when you change something on them.
- You can set case upper if that's what you want.
-
- There is also a Unix version of Xedit, called Uni-Xedit, produced by
- Dynasoft Workstation Group, (708)696-4450. I've never seen it, but I
- would only be interested if it included Kedit's advanced features.
