  24. Yes, it can be done.  I haven't personally recorded something and 
  25. recreated it later but I am familiar with some people who have.  If the 
  26. signal is going to be recorded, the better quality the recorded signal 
  27. the greater likelihood that the output will be useful.

  29. At work I have had need to use devices that can decode the analog output 
  30. between two modems as the modems were chip based and there was no other 
  31. way to monitor them.  This usually requires two modems to get both sides 
  32. of the data transfer.  So far this has always been at the lower speeds.  
  33. It stands to reason that when the higher speed modems get into MNP or 
  34. V.42 mode that they might be difficult to monitor.  I seem to recall that 
  35. these modes are usually the result of some form of negotiation and a 
  36. monitoring modem that was not party to such negotiation probably wouldn't 
  37. set up correctly.
