- Are you saying the terminal won't even let you TYPE to the modem
- unless carrier detect is high? If you connect the terminal to the
- modem and type characters, the modem doesn't blink its SD (Send
- Data) light? If it DOES blink, then you ought to be able to type an
- "AT&C0&W" command line, even though you don't see the characters
- being echoed back to you.
-
- If that doesn't work, what you can do is tie any of a number of
- signals from the modem over to the carrier detect signal. The most
- practical is to disconnect the wire from pin 8 on the modem end
- (DCD) and connect it to pin 6 (DSR, which should be held always on).
- Depending on the cable, you might be able to just push out the pins
- from the plug and shuffle them around. Be sure to check with a
- voltmeter to make sure the modem is holding DSR on before going
- through the trouble of changing the cable.
-
- Of course, there's one more alternative: you could temporarily move
- the modem to a PC which doesn't care if DCD is high. Fire up your
- favorite comm program, type the AT&C0&W command string to set DCD
- always on and save it in the modem's non-volatile memory, then take
- the modem back to the terminal.
