- I face the opposite situation:

- The BUSY tone in Spain is also diffent than the BUSY tone in the US.
- Of all the US modems I have tried, the Supra is the only one that does
- recognize the busy tone (ROM 1.2C). All the other modems do as you said,
- that is, they keep waiting for carrier until timeout.

- The difference in the busy tone is that it is faster here, i.e., it
- consists of a series of short "beeps" in rapid succession, instead of the
- slower succession you hear in the US.

- Maybe a good suggestion for modem manufacturers would be to provide
- an S-register that could be used to select the kind of busy tone, in the
- same way as there is a way to select the DTMF duration/spacing or the pulse
- dialing break/make ratio.
