-
- i have been following this thread with some interest. i fall in the
- camp of those who do not believe that this newsgroup should be
- used for commercial purposes, because there are groups for this, and
- because the nature of this system is that the receiver pays, not
- the sender.
-
- the "who is commercial and who is not" is reminiscent of the
- olympics people deciding who is a professional athlete and who is not.
-
- i would say that it is reasonably easy to define who is performing
- commercial activity and who is not: if one is selling something which
- one originally bought to use, that is not commercial activity. if one
- is selling something that one bought (or made, of course) specifically
- to sell, that is commercial activity.
-
- there are probably some exceptions to this, and of course this
- definition does not lead to any kind of set of enforceable criteria --
- it is up to each poster to have enough decency to decide what
- is appropriate and what is not.
-
- that said, i don't see how anyone can judge anyone else's ad (or
- worse, signature) to decide who is doing what. let's be careful
- before we go throwing around accusations.
