  18. I should clarify my previous post, just so to be clear on what "doesn't hang
  19. up" means.  The modem "hangs up" in the sense that it sends the appropriate
  20. (v.42?) "please hang up" message to the remote end, which dutifully hangs up,
  21. ending the telephone call.  However the modem remains "off hook" at the local
  22. end, with the CD (Carrier Detect), OH (Off hook), EC (Error correction), and
  23. SQ (signal quality) lights lit as if it still had a valid, working
  24. connection.  It doesn't go On Hook until I manually prod it to do so.
