- Unfortunatelly, you can't usually talk on a line to one party
- and still expect the modem to maintain a connection to a computer
- on the 'other half' of a call-waiting call.
- Certainly, it's possible to do that by adjusting the 'loss-of-
- carrier-to-hangup-time' parameter on the modems on BOTH ends of
- the call. But in most cases, if you answer the voice call both
- modems will disconnect due to loss of carrier. In fact, on many
- telephone systems the 'call-waiting-beep' is enough of a disruption
- to cause YOUR modem (and sometimes the one on the other end) to
- disconnect. Increasing the time mentioned above is used sometimes
- to prevent a disconnect and ignore the voice call, but you will
- still get an error burst (unless the modem is an error-correcting
- one).
- In any case, you really can't take the voice call and still
- maintain the data call.
