- I'm trying to tighten up our process of backing up Sun SparcStations and
- servers to Exabyte tapes. I have several questions related to the lifespan
- of these tape volumes and ways to avoid unreadable data.
-
- 1) What is the expected shelf life of these cartidges?
- 2) How does the number of times a volume is read or written affect the
- integrity? (i.e. is there a heuristic in terms of shelf life, write
- access, read access, other variables)?
- 3) Is there a certification utility available which would help me anticipate
- tape media failures?
- 4) Is there a way to keep a count of correctable hardware errors (and then
- junk a volume when an error theshhold is exceeded)?
-
- Thanks, Paul_Von_behren@stortek.com
