  14. Does anyone have some experiences of the CA-ARCHIVER software?

  16. We have run into problems with it concerning file transferring
  17. from reel tapes to 8mm Exabyte tapes. We have a VAX 6000-510
  18. running VMS 5.5-1, a HSC50 (microcode 4.1) and an Exabyte station
  19. SI8500G (2 * 5GB) from Systems Industries. We use the Exabytes
  20. for daily backup, so the problem shouldn't be there. The version 
  21. of CA-ARCHIVER is 4.0.

  23. I first tried an "ARCTAPECOMPRESS", it would have done (according
  24. to the manual) exactly what I needed but the run failed. I called
  25. CA-Finland and they told me that ARCTAPECOMPRESS will disappear
  26. from this piece of software because it hasn't been as reliable as
  27. it should have. Well, they told me to do a 
  28. "ARCHIVE/REWRITE/PRIM=PATnnn/SEC=SATnnn/GENERATE=ALL" and then
  29. "ARCSERVICE/REWRITE/SETUP=PRESORT". When I started the service
  30. run for "ARCSERVICE/REWRITE" I managed to transfer some data to
  31. the 8mm tape but I soon noticed that the HSC console started to
  32. complain about "timeout errors" etc. After a while this run requested
  33. another 8mm tape (and it was still the first reel tape I transferred 
  34. from!).

  36. I interrupted the job and found out that I couldn't mount an ordinary
  37. volume after that! I had to reset the Exabyte station to be able to
  38. mount a tape again.

  40. Unfortunately CA-Finland has very little knowledge of Exabytes, so
  41. I hope someone out there could give me a hint or two... Thanks!
