- Let me give a bit of background and then ask my question. On Monday night
- we tried to run a Patron load, LB510JC. Unfortunately, something went wrong
- with it (don't know what) so the file was restored. Then we discovered that,
- through a scheduling error, the backup that was supposed to happen before
- L510 actually happened after. So we had to do the restore from Friday night's
- backup. This meant that we needed to do forward recovery, LB968, on the
- Patron file to get Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday updates back in the
- file. Well, I am still trying to get the !@#$%^&* job to work. Now the
- question. While reading the TSG for the umptheenth time I noticed a reference
- to including LB610 updates in the forward recovery process (#6912). I can
- see the reason this is necessary, but how do I do it? What file is used as
- input? And, why the hell ain't it documented?
-
- The process I have used so far is:
- LB965JC is backing up the entire (I think) journal 4 (A&B) each time CICS
- is dropped. This goes to a GDG tape. I have enough cycles for another week
- of journal backups.
- I have copied each of the relevant backups to a DASD flat file using
- SyncSort; FIELD=COPY and using the same INCLUDE= parameters used by LB968.
- This gets me flat files with only the records I need (I think). I needed the
- DASD files because I haven't got enough tape drives to concatenate tapes in
- SORTIN like the documentation for LB968 says.
- I have copied the tape backup of our patron file to DASD. This is the
- BACKUP DSN according to the documentation.
- I have included a DD for the VSAM patron file using the FCT name as the
- DDName.
- I have run LB968 numerous times with the above setup. Each time I get the
- same results, no records read and no records used. The job completes with
- zero condition codes and only runs about 2 or 3 sseconds. I think it is just
- jumping to the end of the program to give the summary stats and quit.
-
- It took me 2 days of B.S. to figure out how to set up a job that wouldn't
- abend because something was missing. I am getting very frustrated. If you
- have any insights to offer please give me a call. Thanks Dan Kirchner for
- your JCL. It does give me some ideas about how to make a "production" job,
- but I am essentially doing the same thing. Thanks in advance for any help
- received.
