- In a lot of shops, unfortunately, tuning is not done at all or only
- very superficially or only in response to crises. These shops often
- respond to performance problems by throwing bigger iron at the problem.
- Hopefully, they have at least determined whether they are CPU bound or
- I/O bound and respond appropriately. In most of the shops I am familiar
- with, the systems programming manager performs whatever performance
- management/tuning gets done (when he/she has the time).
