- The 1993 NATIONAL CONFERENCE on PROBLEM SOLVING ACROSS THE
- CURRICULUM will be held at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in
- Geneva, New York, June 24-26, 1993. The conference offers
- opportunities to exchange ideas about teaching problem solving
- and critical thinking in ALL curriculum areas. Presentations in
- the following areas are suggested:

- The Expanded Classroom
- Total Quality Management in the Classroom
- Planning, Implementing and Institutionalizing Change
- Problem Solving Using Electronic Networking
- Challenging the Standards in Writing, Mathematics and Science
- The Non-Traditional Student
- Modeling the Problem Solving Process
- Developing Learning Skills in the Core Curriculum
- Cooperative Learning
- Faculty Mentoring/Team Teaching
- Teaching Styles and Learning Styles
- Writing Across the Curriculum
- Critical Thinking and Non-Quantitative Problem Solving

- Proposals for four types of presentations are requested:
-
- 1) 20-minute discussions/demonstrations of classroom
- innovations, faculty development activities, and results of
- educational research. Use of instructional technology is
- strongly encouraged in these sessions. Need for special
- hardware or software requirments should be specified.
-
- 2) 90-minute workshops focusing on classroom implementation.
- These workshops are intended to be hands-on sessions for 10
- - 15 participants to explore curriculum materials and novel
- delivery techniques. Computer labs and seminar rooms will
- be available for workshops. Available computing
- environments include VAX/VMS, MS-DOS, Macintosh platforms
- and Bitnet/Internet access.

- 3) Directed discussions/brainstorming sessions centered on
- specific problems in higher education. Presenters will open
- the session by reviewing the problem and then facilitating
- discussion. These sessions will take place during
- conference luncheons.

- 4) Posters for the Hall of Innovation, described below.

- GUIDELINES
-
- Prospective presenters must submit a 75-word abstract suitable
- for the conference program booklet by January 15, 1993,
- preferably by disk in WordPerfect 5.1 form. Receipt of all
- abstracts will be acknowledged. Final decisions on acceptance of
- presentation proposals will be made by February 15, 1993; all
- authors will be notified. Final papers for the 1993 conference
- proceedings must be submitted by April 1, 1993, also by disk in
- WordPerfect 5.1 form.

- The "Hall of Innovation" is a gallery display of curriculum ideas
- and effective techniques for teaching problem solving. All
- presenters are invited to exhibit in poster form a description of
- their presentation. Each poster will include a photograph of the
- presenter and a description of the innovation. Exceptional
- poster displays will be recognized during the conference awards
- dinner. [Materials will be supplied for those wishing to create
- a poster during the conference; polaroid pictures will be taken
- upon arrival at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.]
