  16. You appear to be viewing education only in the sense of the present.  Virtual
  17. Reality is a tool for education for the future.  Obviously, we need advocates
  18. for change for both the present and the future, but what we don't need are
  19. for these advocates to be slashing one another.

  21. Presently, most education is teacher-centered, and we need to find ways to
  22. make this environment more efficient &  effective.  I think you are right that
  23. VR has only minimal application in such an environment.  However, education is
  24. in a transition from teacher-centered to student-centered instruction, and VR
  25. holds great promise for this future environment.  Teachers have traditionally
  26. been the bridge between students and knowledge, but they are in many instances
  27. becoming increasingly more like barriers, as their presence holds back many
  28. students who can learn more by being placed directly in contact with
  29. experiences and knowledge such as can be conveyed through VR.  This is not to
  30. say that teachers are about to be replaced, but their roles are slowly being
  31. redefined from that of source to mentor.

  33. To not recognize the potential of technologies such as VR is to remain
  34. dangerously short-sighted, but to force VR into schools before they are
  35. ready can cause one to be needlessly wreckless.
