- UNC-CH Info data searchable from WAIS
-
- Much of the information in the UNC-Chapel Hill campus-wide information
- system (called Info) is now searchable using WAIS (Wide-Area Information
- Server). You can try it out using UNC's LaUNCpad system (formerly the
- BBS). Telnet to laUNChpad.unc.edu. For "username" type launch. When you
- get laUNChpad's menu, select item 4, "Topical document search (WAIS)."
- Type /unc and press return. If your cursor is not on unc-ch-info, move
- your cursor to it. Press the space bar to select that item. Type "w". For
- keywords, I suggest you type "art history". Press return. You should get a
- list of documents. The top item is the section on the Department of Art
- from the Undergraduate Bulletin. Press the return key to see that section.
- Type "q" to quit viewing that item. To view other documents, just move
- your cursor to the item you want to see and press the return key. For
- example, to see the information on art history courses you can take by
- correspondence, look at item number 5, which is from the Independent
- Studies catalog.
-
- The items currently searchable using WAIS are the sections of the Info
- database that do not change often. We'll tackle the dynamic areas, like
- job postings, after Christmas.
