- This is in reference to the paging system...I know I just replied this morning
- but something interesting happened to me later on in the day, I wanted to share
- it with you. It indirectly refers to paging, or a situation which would or
- would not call for paging. You guys let me know (or ya'all for Ginny in Texas)
-
- While at Kent State (our sister Univ in Portage County about 10 minutes west)
- I was taking a library school exam (yuck)..Anyway, about an hour into the exam
- we were interupted. A "situation" occurred that required the class to leave the
- examination room with our coats, purses, etc.(not exams) and go down to the
- first floor of the library. (the library school is on the third floor of a 12
- floor library)
-
- We waited patiently as we could be considering we were interupted just as the
- "intellectual juices" were flowing....We were joking about why were evacuated
- and not sent out of the building. One of the guesses was right....
-
- One of the library school profs received a telephone death threat from a
- disgruntled student... We were evacuated for our safety as was the library
- school office. No one else was evacuated, the library offices and services
- went on as usual.
-
- Luckily for all concerned, this individual did not make it outside his
- apartment. He was arrested before he could do anything.
-
- We eventually were allowed to proceed with the exam-after about a half an
- hour or so....
-
- My question is, should this have been one of the "emergency paging" situations?
- I do not mean to imply that the situation should be broadcasted over the PA,
- but should the rest of the library been evacuated for the safety of the
- employees and students???? (we often hear about the poor souls who were gunned
- down by some maniac who had gone berserk).... I don't expect a perfect answer
- but maybe Rusty can come up with a clever retort or two about librarians being
- armed and dangerous.....
-
- Oh well, a typical day in your campus library....
-
- have a good day everybody!!! (I'm glad mine is almost over!!)
