  13. I have never worked in a library where a paging system is used, but
  14. have been amused at the annoyance of patrons when they call the
  15. reference desk to inquire if we could page such and such a person.
  16. One time, a building manager almost blew out my ear drums by saying:
  17. "(Depletive), this building is going to get all flooded by the
  18. time we find her. She left the taps in her room on."  You would
  19. think building officers were empowered to keep duplicate keys.
  20. I guess that can be a page in the chapter of building management.

  22. Sometimes there are real emergencies that paging systems could
  23. be used. There was a case when a student's mother had passed
  24. away, and there were family members in the lrary looking for
  25. her.  I did walk them through each floor our huge edifice. The
  26. student was not studying in the building. It was time consuming
  27. to walk them around, but I thought it was a noble venture.

  29. The thing about paging is that many a time, the person who is
  30. being sought is not in the library.  The call to the library
  31. may be one of the many calls to several units on campus.
  32. Once again, it's like one of the many pages in the process
  33. of finding.
