- And to which I add:
-
- or larger average file sizes, or more responsive customer machines, or shift in bottlenecks
- at uunet, or possibly better uunet service (from horrible to bad), or any number
- of things independent of the quality and speed of service provided to individual
- customers.
-
- The numbers you should also track are current non-responsive server connect time
- charges vs. expected connect time charges for a highly responsive uunet server?
- IE how much is the excessive loading costing your customers, then ask how can this
- excessive billing be used to improve service the the expected level, and retain
- customers or attract new customers.

- And to which I respond:
-
- The praise us or get lost attitude will not keep uunet in business over
- the long term ... although you may feel some comfort in the current level
- of demand for UUNET services. In your shoes I would be more concerned with
- the rapid increase in competitors ... if you were doing such a good job
- why are they proliferating?
-
- UUNET exists today only because the usenet/USENIX community funded UUNET's
- creation, and in turn your position. I expect this community also has the
- right to demand better service as well as more responsive and cooperative
- UUNET management. When I bitched last year, I was blunt about the non-responsive
- attitude of uunet, and was clear that seeking management change at UUNET
- was clearly an option. That was in private email ... now it's time for
- a more public forum:
-
- Address the issues, cut the insults, and do your job.
-
- A little respect and more civil tone in your postings would be most
- appreciated -- and will certainly generate better trust and respect
- for uunet and it's staff.
