  15. Noam Elkies queries rec.music.classical for a verification of
  16. Glass's having majored in math as an undergraduate.  He double-
  17. majored in math and philosophy at the University of Chicago,
  18. graduating, I believe, at the age of eighteen.  But for a composer
  19. who made use of his math skills, the award, I think, should go to
  20. Babbitt, who applied mathematical principles to the analysis
  21. and creation of twelve-tone music.
