  13. So, Louise, you know you that part about feeling stupid and cursing?
  14. Well, I bought a better manual, and they made a pretty big deal about
  15. the order in which one should tighten down the air cleaner cover. Now,
  16. I have been treating this pretty casually, exposing my ignorance on
  17. this topic.

  19. On this car, there is a rubber gasket-type thing between the top of
  20. the air horn (I think that is what the air horn is) and the air
  21. cleaner. This gasket thing is attached to a metal plate which supports
  22. the... um, something related to the fuel system. Anyway, you have to
  23. lift this off to take off the carb. I found that if I did not tighten
  24. the wingnuts on the air cleaner, I could still wiggle this gasket
  25. thing some. (Oh... VACCUM LEAK). So I tightened everything down good
  26. and snug and guess what?

  30. So... I have taken a lot of the advice that people have offered, and
  31. now that the car is running again, I can perform a lot of tests that
  32. require a car to be running. :)

  34. Someone suggested that the ignition timing might be off, as well. It
  35. was. This was the first time that I had done the timing myself, and it
  36. was pretty exciting seeing that little dot come around and hang out
  37. where it was supposed to. (To anyone out there who is just getting the
  38. hang of fooling around with your car, take heart. If there's hope for
  39. me, there's hope for you.)
