- My car was towed during my recent visit to NYC. It is a long story
- of an innocent man. The hand brake was engaged while it was being
- towed. After the incidence, I noticed that the hand brake was not
- working properly. The car still rolled although I pulled the lever
- as hard as I could. So I tightened the adjusting nut (by the lever)
- which pulls up the wired core in the cable. Well, that did not help.
- I asked myself, "Did the towing make the brake shoes worn out?"
- So I opened the drum to check that out. The leverage inside the drum was
- moving as my wife was pulling the brake lever, but it was apparently not
- enough to stop the car rolling. Brake shoes were still pretty thick,
- and were usable as I had them replaced a year ago. And it is less than
- 10kmiles since I replaced the shoes.
-
- Is there any way to tighten the hand brake? My car is '86 mazda 323.
- I need to have my car inspected in a week. Yeah. NJ inspects all cars
- once a year. BTW, I had the same problem last year. But at that time,
- changing the brake shoes solved the problem.
-
- Many thanks in advance.

- PS: BTW, I successfully changed the front disc pads with the help of net
- friends who suggested using a C-clamp. Thank you, guys.
