  14. Is it necessary to realign the front end of a FWD car after
  15. replacing the rack and pinion assembly?  One place says yes,
  16. although they can get it pretty close to what it was without
  17. realigning.  The other place says no, that nothing they do will
  18. change the alignment.  However, I have reason to be wary of the
  19. mechanic at the second place (he diddled around with a carb
  20. rebuild two years ago, not fixing the problem and not seeming to
  21. know he wasn't fixing the problem -- now I rebuild my carb
  22. myself).  Also, both the Chilton's and the Haynes say that, in
  23. order to get the rack and pinion out to replace it, the left tie
  24. rod has to come out.  So I should think you would have to redo
  25. the front alignment.

  27. How I loathe having someone else work on my car but me -- but
  28. this is more than I want to attempt just now.  :-(

  30. BTW, the car is an '85 Omni, 2.2L, auto, 70K.
