- David,

- Your air cleaner contains a vacuum operated temperature modulated motor which
- ensures that warm air is fed to the carburetor when the engine is cold. With
- the engine cold, remove the air snorkel feeding the air cleaner. The motor
- operated door may be visible. With the engine cold, this door is shut -- the
- air is being taken in from the air heater ("stove") via a hose (you do have
- this hose, right?) someplace near the exhaust manifold. As the engine heats
- up, this door will gradually open to allow colder, outside air to feed in. If
- this door is stuck in the open position with the engine cold, or if the hose to
- the air heater is missing, the engine will run very roughly when it's cold.
