- In our house under construction, the heating people have placed the
- combined exhaust ductwork for our 80% efficiency gas furnace and gas
- water heater up through one corner of the pantry, like so:

- The gas exhaust is channeled through an 8" circular metal duct with
- a 1" air space around it. The pantry walls will be standard cabinet
- box material--1/2" or 3/4" wood.
-
- I'm a little worried about the heat from the exhaust so close to
- long-term food storage. But perhaps the temperature of the exhaust
- is insignificant. Can someone put my mind at ease regarding this
- unfortunate situation? Or maybe there are steps I can take now to
- better insulate the ductwork from the cabinet--perhaps some sort of
- heat shield?
-
- Your suggestions are welcome.
