- NB4 arrived here in Western Massachusetts last week.
- Installing it went smoothly, except for installing my soft
- fonts. In NB 3.0, I use bitmapped soft fonts downloaded to an
- HP II laser printer. I load from within NB by issuing the
- command "DO DL CENT110L" (CENT110L is the name of the font
- catalog, and DL is a command from Lodestar Utilities for
- downloading.) This downloads the fonts to the printer and
- returns me to NB when the downloading is done. Loading a .PRN
- printer file for these fonts (created by Lodestar Utilities)
- is sufficient to make make NB3 recognize the fonts and send
- printer instructions accordingly, and also to give correct
- line counts in page-line mode. I have tried to do this in
- NB4; it doesn't work. The command LDPRN CENT110L.PRN seems to
- work - at least no error message is received. But it has no
- effect. The page-line mode does not provide anything like the
- proper printed layout should be. When I print, after having
- downloaded, I get the default font of the printer, which is
- 12-point Courier monospaced. Clearly the printer file
- approach doesn't work in NB4.
-
- Perhaps, I thought, NB4 will install my soft fonts even though
- it has no printer table or equivalent for them on the
- distribution disks. Lodestar Utilities creates a printer file
- by reading the font description file; so it would be possible
- to have something like that built into NB4. I tried several
- times to install my soft fonts into NB4, but had no success.
- The installation program reports "no uninstalled fonts found",
- whether I put the fonts in NB4\FONTS, in C:\FONT, or on a
- floppy disk (giving the appropriate path when requested, of
- course.) It appears that it can load only those fonts for
- which it already has a printer table (or its equivalent) on
- one of the printer disks supplied. I can find no way to use
- my soft fonts.
-
- I would be grateful for any help.
