- I can echo Bill TeBrake's encouragement to Marilyn Edelstein not
- to let the installations problems reported here for NB4 deter her
- from biting the bullet and doing it. Once I got some space
- cleared out on my hard disk, I first installed my whole upgrade
- package (NB4, Lingua, Orbis, and Ibid) on my partitioned hard
- disk. I put NB4 etc. into a separate directory on drive D,
- leaving 3.1 and Ibid on drive C. I used my original diskettes in
- drive B during the installation rather than send the installing
- program to 3.1 in drive C. The installation went like a charm.
- The only problem came when I rebooted my system and tried to call
- up NB4. I got nothing but a screen full of garbage (mainly lines
- of a single character, one of the box corner characters, as I
- recall). Remembering that someone had said that Lingua was
- reported not to be compatible with the Trident VGA chip, I erased
- all files in my NB4 directory and reinstalled NB4 without Lingua
- (and also without Orbis and Ibid). Since then I have been happily
- exploring the new features of NB4. I suppose that I could install
- Orbis and Ibid without problem, though I haven't tried. To use
- Lingua, it appears that I will have to junk my Trident card. But
- that presents a problem. When the system board in my Gateway 2000
- 386SX went kaput, I replaced it a DTK board and my ATI WonderCard
- no longer worked. That is why I'm using a Trident VGA display. If
- not an ATI card, what video card would be a good choice?
-
- QUESTION: Is anyone successfully using Lingua with a Trident
- TVGA-8900LC2 or similar model Trident card?
